A Peek into Peaks.

Amidst the first snowfall of the year, we gathered together as a team up in the Timpanogos mountains of Utah for our second annual Tiled retreat. With employees currently based out of San Diego, Seattle, and Provo, this retreat was an incredible time to become more personally acquainted with those 30px x 30px profile pictures most of us only know from Slack.

Last year, we called our retreat Horizons based on the broad vision we had for our first year of Tiled and where we aimed to be in a years time. The title Peaks felt fitting for 2017 because although we’ve reached some of our goals we established at Horizons, we want to reach even higher this year. During the retreat, we gathered as a team to set lofty, ambitious goals for the upcoming year. We want to go where it feels almost unimaginable, where it feels uncomfortable, where it pushes us to the absolute highest limit.

Most of our days at Peaks were filled with eating more bowls of trail mix than we’d like to admit and many hours filled with design sprints. For these sprints, we gathered into small groups and went through a process of answering critical business questions through design, prototyping, and testing. We’d then present our ideas to the group, gather feedback and go back to refine what we had learned.

A highlight of the retreat was our customer roundtable discussion with Jake Reni Senior Manager of Inside Sales at Adobe, Jason Deelstra Marketing Director at Vivint Solar, Cory Sistrunk Former President of Rapt Studio and current Founder of UMFG and Brad Kramer Program Manager at Vivint Solar. All of us settled into a corner of the cabin and asked these four successful customers of ours to give advice generated from their various backgrounds and entrepreneurial experiences. Their feedback opened our eyes to the industries dire need for Tiled and the potential we have to really make an impact in greater vistas ahead.

On Friday evening, we wrapped up our retreat with our milestone exercise talking about where we thought Tiled would be in six months, one year, and five years time. We even established goals we wanted to achieve by the end of the year. Why? Because we are Tiled. And moving quickly is all we know. And trust us, we have some incredible things up our sleeves.

Here’s to 2018. We’re excited for what is to come and hope you are as well.
